The secret life in the bathroom
Who doesn’t know the feeling of having sat down on the toilet, almost about to lose oneself in your thoughts, when suddenly you are hauled back to reality as you see a small silver-coloured creature run across the floor. It mainly resembles a fish due to its movements and the silvery colour, and the creature has therefore also gained its name from the water living animals and is in Danish called Sølvfisk (in English Silver Fish).
And now you start to notice your surroundings. In the corner, there is a small spider web. And when looking closer, you also see the spider with its eight legs. The most common spider in bathrooms is called the cellar spider (also known as a skull spider). It traps flies and other small creatures, but it is also truly happy when it can bite into another spider, for example the large house spider, which during the autumn sneaks inside.
What other animals you can find depends on where the bathroom is located, but if the window is open and the light is on during the night, it is not unusual to find mosquitos, daddy-long legs and moths on the wall in the morning. And in the olden days, you also heard about rats making the trip through the sewer and up through the toilet bowl.
