Streets and edges of roads
The gateways and main roads in the city are covered with very short cut grass. The nice lawns typically consists of only 2-3 species of cultivated grasses, and is mowed weekly over the summer. This helps to maintain the areas as lawns.
The edges of roads has great potential for an increased biodiversity - just like the city lawns. And like the city lawns, the transformation of the edges of roads will destroy the city as a barrier for many species, because they create more habitats which are associated with each other. We just have to stop the very intensive management. If we only mow twice a year, and remember to remove the cut material, then we would create perfect conditions for many more species .
