Physical
An important part of Rethink Urban Habitats is the establishment and execution of physical projects that demonstrate concrete initiatives which helps to enhance biodiversity in the area. These projects will mainly be carried out in Aarhus and environs, as well as in other municipalities in the Central Jutland Region. It is demonstration projects designed to stimulate the creation of similar projects in the city, region, country - Europe!
The execution of these specific projects will ensure that the city's biodiversity continue to be in focus and handled. The results can be enjoyed for years to come, and also help to set a new agenda where the city is seen as habitat for both humans and all the species that inhabit our part of the world.
For each physical action the biodiversity in the region will be followed. Lists of species will be drawn up before, during and after the establishment of the initiatives so we can demonstrate the positive effect. Nature takes time, so monitoringen the species will typically take place over a longer period of time. Planted flowers ned time to grow up or immigrate, their pollinators have to find them and the entire ecosystem must be established. Results will be visible at a time, depending on the initiative's type and extent.
What physical measures that is used will vary depending on the city nature type being worked on. Roughly speaking, the green areas are divided into 10 different city nature types which are each characterized by their nature content, design, location and use. Of course, the various city nature types overlap each other, but they are typically quite distinct by the above criteria. The ten city nature types is:
